It is part of the series that Camille Pissarro painted in 1897, which had as its main theme "The great walks of Paris". This particular landscape was painted more than once, with the variations of color and light given by the different seasons of the year. Here is the same scene painted in spring. It is one of the busiest roads in Paris, for which Pissarro shows a special predilection.
