Assumption of the Virgin, Titian

This is the largest oil painting that exists and has ever existed in the city of Venice to this day. It remains in the original place where it was painted, in the Basilica of Saint Mary of the Friars. Largely, this work was responsible for skyrocketing Titian's fame in the area, though not without controversy, as many close to the congregation had serious doubts about the quality of the painting.

An allegorical altarpiece showing the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, that is, the moment she was taken up to heaven in body and soul, as described by Christian tradition. It is considered a model work of the Italian Renaissance style.
In the lower layer, the apostles represent mortals crying out to heaven, while the Virgin, central and surrounded by angels, ascends. Above, God the Father watches attentively, accompanied by angels, symbolizing the heavenly connection.
