Titian (Tiziano Vecellio) aims to express his ideas about the stages of man and their characteristics.
In this work, the human figure in its maturity is exalted, where the man is the only one looking at the present and is crowned with the phrase "PRAESENS PRUDENTER AGIT".
This allegory is a portrait of three people and three animals, representing (from right to left) youth, adulthood, and old age; the future, the present, and the past. Even the light is brighter on the right side and gradually fades to the left.
At the top, three phrases are read:
"EX PRAETERITO", "PRAESENS PRUDENTER AGIT" and "NE FUTURA ACTIONẼ DETURPET".
These words can be translated as:
"With the experience of the past, the present acts prudently to not spoil future actions."
