Wisteria, Monet

The painting titled Wisteria was painted in 1925 by Claude Monet. It is a work that establishes a synergy between the light and the citrus colors characteristic of the plant and its surroundings. The composition is almost abstract, only those familiar with Monet immediately notice that it is a painting inspired by nature. The canvas is dominated by an electric blue background that gives way to curly shapes and vibrant contrasts.

In 2019, through an investigation conducted with X-rays, led by the contemporary art curator Ruth Hoppe, a previous painting of water lilies was discovered.

This painting is part of a series of eight paintings with the same theme, which were created by Monet with the intention of holding a large exhibition alongside the water lily paintings.

Wisteria is currently located in the Dutch museum Gemeentemuseum Den Haag.
